Term review 1 (winter)

Listening to these recordings, And you will see as a group we have come along way from the start of the term. I feel if we have more rehearsal we would have better volume control and better timing. genial feed back for myself is that I preformed bad due to a lack of practice, you can hear this when I mess up and stop playing and starting late at the beginning. hopefully as we progress through the year we would be able to face and challenge these obstacles.

  1. Group comment: You are all competent musicians and evidently have good ears for picking up songs quickly and putting parts together. You are also talented instrumentalists/vocalists and therefore could go far as a band. This competency was demonstrated in these two performances and you showcased two good covers, however, there is a lot of opportunity for greater refinement here (particularly the endings (esp. Love Yourself) - make sure they are properly rehearsed!). As competent musicians who pick things up quickly, it's very easy to breeze through songs without paying too much attention to detail and I think that's what can be improved here. Take advantage of the skills within the group and resist moving on quickly/getting distracted and rehearse with a unified aim to make your songs really tight - if you manage to do this you could be an exceptionally polished band. In essence, work hard together and you will do very well.

Individual feedback: Owen, you are a competent drummer and you pick beats up quickly. Your drumming was well received in this performance, so well done.. However - I know you can do better! As a drummer, you need to make sure you hold the band together by maintaining a steady tempo - sometimes your beats could slip out of time. You also need to make sure your fills are really tight as they will really lift your performance. Additionally, try and demonstrate more enthusiasm in your playing to improve your stage presence; you sometimes have the tendency to look distracted/uninterested when playing - make sure you communicate visually with the band at all times. You can drum well - the skills are they - now you just need to pay attention to detail in your playing to make your performances even better!

    Peer feedback:
    - All the instruments and vocals fitted well together. In the first piece, the bridge just before the chorus, it sounded a bit muddled - but you made a good recovery for the chorus.

    - Love Yourself: I liked Liam's vocal tone. The band could be more in sync. Wonderwall: could be more in sync and Liam could be louder.

    - I loved their pieces, they were nicely put together. You could hear all the instruments very clearly and it was good how they changed the song to make it their own.

    - Good build ups, strong guitar chords, well timed drumming. Could try adding another instrument other than guitar.

    - I liked the songs, the covers sounded good with Liam's voice and the bass part sounded good. Sometimes tuning could be improved.

    - Good drum beat, vocals could be projected more.

    - Well structured performance, sometimes pitching could be improved.

    - I like the nice steady beat. Liam clearly knows all the words, pitching could be improved.

    - Love Yourself: Drum beat was nice, fitted with the song well. Liam did a good job on the vocals and James played guitar very well and accurately. Wonderwall: James did a great job on guitar, really helped make the song. Could have used a capo to change the key.

    - Love Yourself: Good drum beat, guitar and singing could have better balance. Wonderwall: Good drum beat which complemented the singing and guitar.

    - Love Yourself: The drum beat was good, the bass and guitar fitted nicely. The start could be more polished. Wonderwall: Were they the right guitar chords? Could sound more like the song.

  2. Feedback from 2nd Feb performance

    Class feedback:

    - more confidence with performing
    - more rehearsal needed
    - are you sure of what each other are doing / performing ?
    - know how to adjust if need be if others in the band aren't around

Think about these comments please Owen. Write a response for everything including Ms Onako's from last year.

Act on these appropriately. More practice is definitely needed on a regular basis.
